Course
Personal Safety
Once all other mitigating measures have failed, there is only the last resort left to workers from harm, it is personal protective equipment or PPE. The relevance of PPE is evident and one should understand when PPE must be used, why it is important, how to maintain and evaluate its suitability and how to properly use the PPE during day to day activities. Unsafe acts and conditions are sometimes occurring in the workplace without workers being actually aware of it at time. Our personal behavior can influence our work environment not only in a positive way, but also in a negative way. How we behave during our activities at work makes a difference for sure. Recognizing this behavior and identifying potential risks and hazards as a result from this behavior will create a higher awareness of the impact of our actions, or lack of action! We will touch upon the importance of regular Safety Observation Rounds (SOR) and introduction of programs like “STOP” from Dupont.
